KOLKATA, June 2: Social activist Ms Medha Patkar today urged the people of the state to launch a Satyagraha movement in front of all the commercial structures owned by the Tata Group of Industries.
Ms Patkar, who had come to Singur and met the farmers spearheading the anti-land acquisition movement, held the state government and the authorities of Tata Motors Limited responsible for the death of two farmers who committed suicide after being “forcibly” displaced from their lands.
“The people should launch a satyagraha*** movement in front of the commercial buildings of Tata Group of Industry as they have started robbing farmers of their livelihood. Social workers and human right activists should lead the mass,” Ms Parkar said. Ms Patkar today met the family members of Prasanto Das, a farmer from Khaserveri at Singur, who committed suicide owing to alleged forcible land acquisition. She asked the farmers of Singur to intensify their movement.
